Suggestions that couldn’t be incorporated:
Wilderness Addition Boundaries: There were as many comments from those who thought we did not have enough wilderness in the proposal as those who felt we didn't need any more. Due to the split, we came to the conclusion that the proposed boundaries should stand. The boundaries are the result of years of discussion and compromise, for the most part reflect the agency’s recommendations for wilderness, and they would ensure the values of the Front are protected and passed down from generation to generation.
Outside scope of Heritage Act: Some of the issues and concerns about how public lands are currently managed were outside the scope of the Coalition’s proposal. Regardless of how members of the Coalition may feel personally, the Heritage proposal wasn’t intended to solve all the problems people see with public lands management. The Coalition can’t reform Forest Service fire policy, alter the Endangered Species Act, or over-ride existing public land laws with this current effort.
